this is a review of the best screenrecorders for android right now
including the best free and paid optionsand the different features between them to help you decide which is the best one for you plus a tutorial on each showing you exactly how to record your android screen in just a few taps
screen recorder on
android this is something that they
started releasing in version 11
and it's actually pretty good now if you
haven't done the update to android 11 or
it's not supported on your device yet
you might find that you've already got a
decent screen recorder built in
a lot of samsung phones and others have
had built-in screen recorders for quite
a while
and they're pretty good too so to find
it you just want to swipe down from the
top past the notifications
until you're able to see the menu
options there and then you might need to
swipe across
to find screen recorder now if it's not
showing for you you can press the edit
button down the bottom left hand corner
and you can customize up which icons are
actually shown on there
and also the order that they're shown so
i'm going to go back out of this now
and i'm just going to press on screen
record start
and it's going to pop up with some
options now this is actually pretty
powerful and it's awesome that they've
included them in here
because this is normally what you needed
one of the other apps like the one i'm
going to show you next
for which unlocks more functionality so
you've got the option here not just to
record your device's screen
but also to record audio and if we press
on this
little drop down arrow here we get to
choose what audio we'd like to capture
so we can just record the audio from the
phone's microphone so if i'm going to be
speaking then it would just record that
we can also record just the device audio
so if i'm going to be watching a video
or playing a game and i want that audio
captured
then i can select device audio or you
can actually select
both device audio and microphone as well
which is so awesome that they've
included that in here now if you don't
want audio at all then you can just
disable that option
but the last one here show touches on
screen this is where if you enable this
then you'll actually see the little
touch marks appear on the screen
as you're running through your recording
so that your viewers or anyone watching
can follow along with what it is you're
doing so then all you need to do to
start your recording is press start
and then when you're ready to stop your
recording you can just again swipe down
from the top to bring up your
notifications
and just press tap to stop that will
then go ahead and save the file on your
device which then
you can open up in your photos app and
you can trim it down or share it out
from there so that's a really simple
03:09
straightforward way that you can record
03:11
your
03:11
android device screen now if you don't
03:13
have access to a built-in screen
03:15
recorder on your android device already
03:17
then that's where you're going to have
03:18
to install an app to do it now there is
03:20
an absolute ton of them out there
03:22
but my favorite and the one that i
03:24
recommend is called x recorder
03:26
and it's actually by the same company
03:27
that make inshot the video editing app
03:30
so when you download and open up the app
03:31
you're probably just going to see
03:33
this little floating orange widget here
03:35
that you can pick up and that you can
03:36
move around
03:37
this is kind of your quick access to all
03:40
the control and all the functionality
03:41
inside of x recorder so if we press on
03:43
that now and just press the home button
03:45
to take us to the actual home app
03:47
i'll run you through some of the
03:48
features in here and then show you the
03:50
rest of that quick access button
03:51
let's go down to settings down the
03:53
bottom right hand corner
03:54
so you can see in here how many more
03:56
settings and how much more control we
03:57
get over our screen recording
03:59
than what we had with the built-in
04:01
android one so straight away we get to
04:02
adjust the resolution
04:04
lots of different options in there from
04:05
240p right up to 1080p
04:08
quality we get to record it up to 16
04:11
megabits per second
04:12
so the higher the number the better the
04:14
quality but also the larger the file
04:16
size will be as well
04:17
so i'm going to leave this on the
04:18
maximum here 16. you also get to choose
04:20
your frames per second
04:22
so if you're doing any sort of gaming
04:23
videos or anything like that then you
04:25
would want to be recording at 50 or 60
04:27
the higher frame rates
04:29
so you're going to get a smoother video
04:31
for your game screen recording but you
04:32
also have options right down to 15
04:34
frames per second in here too
04:36
you also have the ability to leave your
04:38
screen orientation on auto
04:40
or you can actually lock it so that the
04:42
video is going to stay at landscape or
04:44
portrait now if we come down here you
04:46
can see we've got the option to record
04:47
audio in here as well so i'll just tick
04:49
this box
04:50
and then we get to choose our audio
04:52
source so it's currently set to
04:53
recording internal audio
04:55
or we can set it to do our microphone as
04:58
well so the microphone in the phone
04:59
now what this doesn't have surprisingly
05:02
is the ability like we have with the
05:04
built-in app
05:05
to record both the microphone and
05:07
internal audio
05:08
and there is a little bit of a warning
05:09
there saying that internal audio
05:11
recording is only supported
05:13
on android 10 and above and there's even
05:16
an app support list if you press this
05:18
check supported app list
05:19
it's going to go through a look at all
05:20
the apps that are installed on your
05:22
phone and it's going to give you a
05:24
checkbox as to whether they are
05:26
supported or not
05:27
you also in here get to specify where
05:29
your video file is going to be saved on
05:31
your device
05:32
and if we come down here some more
05:34
there's things like a countdown timer in
05:36
here as well
05:36
so it's currently set to 3 seconds we
05:38
can make it 5 10 or we can turn it off
05:41
completely
05:42
we have the option here to hide the
05:43
recording window while you're recording
05:45
this is one that you can see i've got on
05:47
so i don't want all the recording stuff
05:49
showing
05:50
while i'm doing the recording so i like
05:52
to have that one ticked you can also
05:53
hear shake
05:54
the phone to stop recording so you don't
05:56
even need to press the stop button you
05:58
can just shake your phone to stop
05:59
recording with that one
06:00
we can also turn on our camera for our
06:03
screen recording as well so there's me
06:04
hey
06:05
we can also paint or draw on our screen
06:07
so if we enable the brush here
06:09
and we press on the brush then we can
06:11
free draw on the screen
06:13
we can circle stuff or there's even sort
06:16
of preset shapes and things down the
06:17
bottom here so we can draw out a square
06:20
we can get arrows probably better than
06:22
the one that i drew
06:23
all of this stuff we can add in which is
06:25
again going to be recorded
06:27
while we're recording as well so i can
06:29
press the little red x down the bottom
06:30
here to cancel out of that
06:32
so i'm not going to run through every
06:33
feature in here but those are the main
06:35
ones
06:35
and you can see how much more advanced
06:37
this is than the built-in one
06:39
and how much more functionality it has
06:41
so i'm going to go back to my android
06:42
desktop here now and you can see that
06:45
we've got the app still
06:46
running here and so if i press on this
06:48
this is that little quick launch menu
06:50
again
06:51
you can see we've got direct access now
06:52
to press record
06:54
we can also then bring up our tools
06:56
which is then going to bring up some of
06:57
those menu items we had before
06:59
to quick access to screenshot to enable
07:01
our camera
07:02
to do the brush enable the microphone so
07:05
we don't have to dive back into those
07:07
settings that next one is the home
07:09
button to take us to that main page in
07:11
the app where we can see all our
07:12
recordings
07:13
and the last one there is the settings
07:14
button which will take us directly to
07:16
the
07:17
settings so now if we want to actually
07:19
start a screen recording we can press
07:21
on the little button here and we can
07:23
press record that will count us down
07:25
and we are now screen recording with
07:28
this app
07:28
so we can go and do whatever we need to
07:30
do when we want to stop we again swipe
07:32
down from the top
07:33
and we get this extra menu appear down
07:35
in our notifications area
07:37
where we again have access to those
07:38
tools we can pause our recording
07:40
or we can stop it all together so i'm
07:42
going to press stop and it says here
07:44
that our video is saved we can play it
07:46
we can delete it we can edit it or we
07:48
can share it directly from here
07:50
now that's the other cool thing about
07:52
this app is that once we've done our
07:53
screen recording we can actually edit
07:55
them down
07:56
in this app as well so if we go down to
07:58
this little edit button
08:00
the little pencil down the bottom we've
08:01
got a heap of extra tools in here for
08:03
editing videos
08:04
compressing videos merging videos
08:07
together editing photos and those sorts
08:09
of things in here as well
08:10
so if we just go edit video in here we
08:12
can select our video
08:13
let's pick this one here and go next and
08:16
then we've got a heap of editing tools
08:18
and functionality
08:19
in here now this video editor in this
08:21
app here
08:22
does actually put a little watermark on
08:24
your video
08:25
but you can remove it for free so you
08:27
can see it's got the watermark down the
08:28
bottom there x recorder if you actually
08:30
press
08:31
on that they give you the option to
08:33
watch an ad and that watermark will be
08:35
removed so it's not on your actual
screen recording
it's actually when you come into edit in
here or you can remove it permanently
if you upgrade to the paid version so
the paid version or x recorder pro
it's a one-time purchase it's not a
monthly fee or anything like that
this is going to remove all of the ads
and there are quite a lot of them on
there
it's also going to remove that watermark
permanently and give you access to
more of those tools in there like the
video compressor and also the ability
add text
onto your images so the price you're
seeing on my screen
is in australian dollars 9.49 i'm pretty
sure it works out as around six or seven
dollars u.s
to upgrade to the pro version so still
ridiculously cheap
considering what you're getting access
to so those are my top recommendations
for recording your android device screen
so now that that's sorted if you're also
interested in video editing apps on
android then check out the video on
screen
where i break down the best options out
there right now
whether you're an absolute beginne
right through to someone more advance
